Westside Highway with Cranes 1981  48 x 66 inches

for 30 years Ruta painted the view from his 7th story studio window in lower Manhattan or from the 13th story roof of the building, working outside in all weathers. This painting dates from the very beginning of construction of Battery Park City. It and the preceding view of Gansevoort Street were shown at the Museum of the City of New York in 2004, in a retrospective of Ruta’s cityscapes.
