Here is Peter at work in Positano mid 1950s. Upper photo on the terrace of his house on via Pasitea, rented from its owner for $200 a year. Lower photo at the house of German refugee painter and genial friend to other artists, Kurt Craemer, originally of Dusseldorf, known as il Papa, the Pope in Positano because polio confined him to a wheelchair (a strawbottomed wooden chair with wheels attached).Craemer relied on young Italian friends to carry the chair and to pose at evening sketching sessions like this one. Craemer is in the corner, Peter the next seated artist. Standing in the doorway a young British artist, Milein Cosman, later well known in the UK for her portraits of musicians including Stravinsky.
